Taken is book two in The Condemned Series by Alison Aimes. I first read books one and three of this series and finally went back to read the second book. Each book is set in the same world but can be read as stand alones. The series is so amazing, so gripping, though, that you would be missing out if you don’t read all three books!

Cadet Ava Davies was the bride and breeder of Councilman Gregor Hollisworth on New Earth. She had suffered at his hands for years until she finally had her chance to escape. She disguised herself and trained to be a chemist in order to neutralize the horrible technology that Hollisworth has implanted within her. Ava went on a mission to Dragath25, a prison planet where the council from New Earth sent all of the worst of the worst criminals. Ava’s hope is to find a specific ore needed for the serum she discovered will work on her imbedded technology. Only, while she is searching for the ore, she is again taken and finds herself sent below, to the mines deep within the planet.

Hunter Valdus was a member of the resistance on New Earth until he and his crew were sentenced to life on Dragath25. Now they spend their lives working in the deep mines of the planet. When he saw Ava, he remembered her from his past on New Earth, and a plan immediately came to mind. She could finally be the key to their escape. But in order for his plan to work, he had to take her and keep her safe.

hitting rocks with a pickaxe

As Hunter and Ava are forced to spend time together, Hunter slowly sees that Ava is not the kind of person he had thought she was. She was a brave, beautiful woman. Could he still follow through with his plan to use her to gain his freedom? Could he let her go?

“Two enemies, captive and captor, who’d become so much more.”

At first, Hunter was Ava’s captor, but soon, he became her partner. Together, they conspired to bring down the evil man that was controlling their lives. Hunter opens Ava’s eyes to a whole new way of life, of a life that allows her to choose, of her to experience passion instead of pain. Their feelings grow to so much more, to a place where neither of them could contemplate a future without the other.

“He tasted of stars and choices. Of hope and faith. All here in the underbelly of Dragath25.”

couple in waterfall

I love this series so much. In a place void of anything good, these characters mange to find hope and love. The whole book is crazy suspenseful from the start to the finish. These two and Hunter’s crew are forced to go through so much. Their limits are tested time and time again. No matter how bleak things look, though, they still manage to fall in love. Their chemistry burns up the pages.

“Before her, he’d just existed. Now, even down here, he lived.”

This is a fantastic book and series. As I said, you can read them out of order. But really, you don’t want to miss anything. So start at the beginning. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

TAKEN_BLITZ

Book two in this prison planet series and I seriously enjoyed this.
We take up with Ava after she disappeared along with the soldier that was protecting her.
Well, she finds her self in hell beneath ground and trapped and at the mercy of Hunter Valdus’s.
Valdus former resistance fighter sentenced by the council and when he sees Ava amongst the fresh meat sent down to the core he recognises her value and decides to use her as bait to escape this hellhole.
So this was super smokin hot and a kind of enemies to lovers story.
I say kind of as this is actually rather instalove in nature and they are only at loggerheads for a short while.
But you know what sometimes a bit of immediate affection hits that spot and this for me did that rather nicely.
This was action filled and I am really looking forward to experiencing Ryker's story next as he just intrigues me with his bolchy sniping attitude.
I was slightly disappointed that the main characters from the first book didn't make an appearance here, but all else here was good and I am happy to recommend this.
Just a heads-up though Ava here is protected by Valdus and his men because of this books setting there are dark elements to this namely the rape of fellow inmates.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Taken (The Condemned Series, #2).

On a hot, cruel world....

description

"What else do you require? Pain? Humiliation?" A small sob undercut her bravado. "Tell me what to expect."

"No pain. No Humiliation. His voice was a near growl. He couldn't give her gentleness. He'd lost that part of himself long ago. Nor could he promise her a rosy future. Hell, he didn't even know if either of them would make it through the next few intervals. But that didn't mean he was without options.

Stranded on a Prison Planet and at the mercy of a ruthless, dangerous man, Ava Davies struggles to survive and find her own freedom. Freedom not only from the hell of the mines but from her sadistic husband who pulls her strings all the way from Earth.

Wow! What a hot, intense, sexy compelling ride author Alison Aimes takes us on. This is a story that you cannot stop reading till you reach the last page. This author has created such a monster of a villain that you cannot help but hate as equally as our heroine does. And a love story that will make you believe in miracles. She has created a terrible world... bleak and heartbreakingly sad...and yet even in such a place a thing of beauty can survive and even thrive. This is a wonderful love story.

There is violence, and rape, and horrific scenes....but it's not really about all of that...it's about love.

Our hero has done horrific things just to survive the hell he and his men were sentenced to... things that have left his soul dark and scarred. But sometimes love wins even in the pit of despair. Hunter finds that love with Ava.

Oh my gosh! I have so fallen in love with Hunter Valdus. I promise that you will too!

This one checks all the boxes....

Brave hero
Brave heroine
Vile Villain
HEA!

I cannot wait for the next installment as this fabulous series continues. I cannot recommend this book enough.

BEWARE: THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!!!

The violence here was really, really horrific! There are scenes that almost hurtful to read! Torture and rape and torment... WOW!!!

The heroine, Ava, is a breeder (and that's already enough to make your skin crawl!) of a really twisted and sick asshole who implanted her with "heat", a chip inside her brain that makes he go into sexual frenzy that, if not satisfied, can kill her!

She'd run from him and hidden, but if she doesn't take regular pills, when the heat hits, she has to have sex. She hates that, but it's unavoidable.

Now she's in the heands of another man, Valdus (I cannot call him hero, because he's absolutely not that at the beginning!), who wants to use her against the "husband". Not sexually, but as a chip to lure him in the hellhole they're in: the penal colony Dragath25 - the real Hell for everybody that "lives" there.

But not everything is like it seems.

Valdus is cruel and implacable to Ava, but he doesn't know her at all! For him she's a pampered wife/breeder of a man who sent him in hell!

The things that keep happening in this colony are truly horrific: the inmates are savage animals who rape, torture and kill the weaker and many scenes were revolting to read.

When Ava defends Valdus and his friends risking her life, Valdus and the others are stunned! She goes from prisoner to co-consiprator to friend to be sheltered and defened from others.

In the meantime the "heat" strikes and you will never immagine who helps! Joke: Valdus, obviously!

The book is dark and full of violence, but the action is incredibly addictive: I just had to read and read and read! It's also full of friendship and love too! The sex scenes are hot and at the same time tender when feeling get involved.

4,5 “He tasted of stars and choices. Of hope and faith. All here in the underbelly of Dragath25.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another brilliant cover I must say 😍😍😍
Alison Aimes nailed it again with this one!!!!! Loved it !!

This is Ava’s story. We met her in the first book when her ship crashed on Dragath25.

Ava was the breeder and bride of a very bad councilman on New Earth , the man abused and terrorised her continuously until she managed to escape.
Valdus was the member of the resistances that fought on New Earth until he and his team got caught and sentenced by Ava’s husband the councilman and sent to life on the underbelly of Dragath25.

When he saw Ava , Valdus remembered who she was and came up with an escape and revenge plan for him and his team. In order for them to succeed he needed to keep Ava safe, that meant being all the time together 😬.

I just love the heroines is this books. Ava was just as good : beautiful, strong, smart and very brave. She fought very hard to get rid of her past and of what her husband had done to her.
Valdus was a bit mean at the beginning which is understandable , but after he gets to know the real Ava he is a total protective strong alpha male that would move mountains( or mines in this case😂 )for the woman he loves.

We are introduced to second characters in this story and I cannot wait for their stories.

Wonderful brilliant written series!! Don’t miss it !

A breeder, who for some weird reason, has never bred.
Okay her ex is a whacko but still... I kept wondering if she or the other 4 wives ever got pregnant?
And why only some woman have that tag of 'breeder'. She says at the end that if ever she goes back to New Earth, she'll still have to do her duty as breeder.

Anyways, to this book.
Although the conditions in this subterranean colony/life is shown as pretty tough and brutal but still I feel the author fails to convince (me) that such a huge colony is even possible or livable. Oxygen, food, amenities, clothes would not reach or sustain in the conditions described. Just when I thought, really no water? -we get a hidden waterfall but really can such a treasure be really hidden and unknown to the masses?
Apart from that, that place is hardly consistent with falling in love etc., forget the h/H forging such a deep connection.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Another fast-burn, fast-paced, well-written romance. There's a more original plot than Book 1, but I still felt like the characters were a touch on the shallow side. I just couldn't connect with them as fully as I hoped to - but I'm sure the hero's alpha tendencies will be a big hit with everyone.

It's hard to imagine them because it's supposed to be a futuristic setting but they're in a prison planet and he always has an axe so I imagine a viking warrior. And he is sweet, maybe that's why their romance doesn't capture my attention; it's so damn sweet. There is too much action and politics but still a solid omega book. Except, there isn't that alpha control and omega despair fighting her nature. He is the enemy of her "husband" and now he has her under his "control" but little does he know that she is his omega.

LOVED THIS!!

I was so excited to read Ava’s story, and OMGoodness! It was everything I wanted and more.

This story was dark and delicious and intense and steamy and it was SO nail-bitingly good! I’ve never wanted to be surrounded by a bunch of convicts as much as I did while reading this book! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

Valdus...where do I begin? He made my heart go pitter patter. Yes, a big ol’ muscly, savage convict made me swoon like a mofo. He is caring and selfless and protective...and so loyal. Not only to his men, but also his girl.

Ava is such a strong and badass heroine. Tired of being someone’s slave, fed up with being told what she can and can’t do, and so sick of being important for only one thing. I loved watching her strength and confidence grow from the beginning until the end.

Valdus was yet another sexy AF, possessive, protective convict created by this talented author. (She writes the best BBFs!!) I loved these two together. Their chemistry was powerful and full of sizzles.

Not only did I love Valdus, I actually fell for all of the convicts. Even jerkface Ryker. (Can’t wait to read his story!!) My heart ached for all of them.

I needed these guys to survive.
I needed them to get revenge.
I wanted them to get what they deserved - freedom. And even love.

This story has so much action, tons of passion, and A LOT of sexy, muscly, convict goodness. This whole series is fan-fucking-tastic!

Did you read book #1 (Trapped)? Then you’ll want to read this one. If you haven’t read read the first book, no worries, this one will still be highly enjoyable!

Alison Aimes has dragged me into the darkest, hottest, most dangerous pits of desire--and I never want to see the light again.

This story was intense, sexy, thrilling, and compelling. I couldn't stop reading it, and I didn't want to.

Hunter and Ava are the perfect match, and their hot, dirty sex is off the charts. The twist regarding Ava's nanotech is horrific, but it added some serious intensity to the story. I was SO glad to see the villain get his in the end--he deserved to be castrated first, though...with a butter knife.

I would recommend this book to any reader who likes a well thought out sci-fi story with seriously brutal heroes, kick ass heroines, and filthy, hot sex.

A beautiful love story in a raw setting!
Harsh circumstances lead to harsh behaviors. It’s a hard-hitting, danger laden story with lessons for our H/h regarding what is worth striving for in a life or death situation. The mine is rife with brutality: not always an easy read. In the midst of all this, Ava finds an inner strength and will greater than she had before. Valdus finds a compassion and gentleness that he hadn’t felt for years. Their love story unfolds beautifully in this stark setting. Well-written, and a very exciting read!

Ava and Hunter are tough, loyal and willing to do anything to get out of the mine. Both have trackers in them that control their behavior along with the rest of Hunter's team. Freedom isn't possible unless the trackers are neutralized and Ava is the key to it all. This book has it all...action, adventure, suspense, despair, hate, love with a happy ever after on top. This series is so good! I can't wait to read Ryker's story next!

I started and finished this last night and I honestly was surprised at how much I liked the book. There was a lot of darkness in how savage the other prisoners were and what they did, but if you could look past it the love story was the light in the darkness. It was really good and I loved the hero because he was willing to take so much on his shoulders and he didn't crumble because of it. The heroine was just as strong and amazing so if you like prison romance this book is for you.

Good premise

But it just didn’t fly. All this happened in basically 24 hours. Just too many plot holes and I couldn’t buy them going from hate to luv in less than 12 hours. I loved the team and background story but the main characters just didn’t flesh out right.

Taken, book two in the condemned series is a dark tale of corruption and choices.

*****
Rating: 4 stars
Steam: 2 flames
Genre: Sci-fi Romance
*****
Ava, breeder wife #5 to an abusive and corrupt councilman who has been living on the run for two years, constantly looking for a way to escape her husband forever and escape his torment. Ava has never been given choices, and is only seen as good for one thing...breeding. But despite the horrific life she has led, she hasn’t given up and is looking for a rare ore that may just be the key to her salvation. But what will happen when there is an accident and she ends up in the underground mining prison face to face with someone who hates her simply because she is married to the councilman that put him in prison.

Hunter Valdus, badass alpha, has been protecting his team since they were imprisoned for being a part of the resistance, two years ago. When he comes face to face with the councilman’s breeder, he knows he has a way out now! Ava is the perfect bait to get the Councilman. What will happen when Hunter starts to see her as more than a breeder? Will these two learn to trust each other? What will happen when a broken man and a broken woman come together? Could they somehow save each other?

Alison Aimes writes strong characters that will burrow their way into your heart. Taken immerses you in a hellish world of dark and evil, a dog eat dog underground prison where there is no parole and the only escape is death. The world building for this prison was phenomenal and I could visualize the underground as if I was standing in the red dust myself.

Taken will quickly pull you into the deep underground world of Dragath25 and is filled with action, violence, revenge, and romance. The storyline will have you quickly flipping the pages to discover how everything will end. A dark and delicious tale of discovery, trust, and second chances. I enjoyed it and am off to read Ryker’s book! A definite recommendation from me!

Taken starts after Ava Davies is kidnapped in Trapped. Ava had secrets that we got hints of in the first book, but never did I imagine that they were this deep or scary. Ava has been in hiding for years and now that she has been kidnapped by someone that knows exactly who she is and wants to use her to get his revenge will she ever be able to save herself?

Hunter Valdus was sent to Dragath25 with his men for trying to set an uprising on New Earth. Now that he has Ava, he thinks she is his way off this horrible rock. Will he be able to use her against their common enemy once they get to know each other?

The intensity and chemistry between Ava and Hunter are off the charts in this second book. Taken is an excellent addition for this series.

Honestly this was a great survival story. The heroine was demanding and intelligent. I thought she was phenomenal. The 2 books do not really go so you could read this without reading the first book. I was a little disappointed because the couple didn't make an appearance. I do recommend it.

This is the second in a futuristic series about scientists who crash land on a primitive prison planet while looking for natural resources that will aid a depleted Earth. While it's a stand-alone in terms of the couple, it helps to read Trapped for world-building background. Trigger warnings for near rape and extreme violence (much more visceral than in the first book).

If you're looking for a blend of dystopian sci-fi and erotica, you may enjoy this. Certainly, there's much to appreciate: the depiction of class, gender, and climate change issues; a likeable MC whose class-based conflicts were organic; a narrative organized around survivalist, life-and-death, high-stakes plot twists; an intelligent MFC with agency; and characters who exhibit growth. While the MC relationship in the previous book was a quasi-cabin romance, here Ava and Valdus interact with his fellow prisoners (wrongly convicted for their attempts to overthrow a corrupt regime) to such a degree that I felt that the secondary characters were much more vibrant than in the first book. The book's depiction of forced labor (the ore mining) was particularly well-described: its viciousness clearly modeled on King Leopold's Ghost and current accounts of convict labor.

Ava's technologically induced, quasi-omega status (heat cycles) demands a lot of suspension of disbelief and, as with the first book, some of the action was repetitious (how many times did we need to see Ava in danger?) and the world-building lacks some definition. The genesis of Earth's extreme class-based political environment and limited resources is never explained. If over-population is such a problem, then why is someone allowed to have five wives for the sole purpose of procreation? And how much other council members knew about Ava's husband's ore-mining operation was unclear.

4 stars. Some of the characters will go on to subsequent books; it is a stand-alone in terms of the main couple.

So good!

The intensity started on page one and didn’t stop until it was over.

The big H was hardcore and a great leader. He took extra pain so others didn’t.

Really liked him and really loved Ava. She was a fighter to the last breath. She stood up to all her demons.

I don’t know when I got this book, I don’t know why I got this book, though I do like the genre, SciFi Romance, but whatever prompted me to pick this one, a hearty high five to me. From the first page on I could barely put it down.

It takes place on another planet, Dragath25, a prison planet. Ava is our heroine and in her previous life she was the fourth wife of a sadistic ruler. She was a breeder whose only purpose was to bear children, though thank heavens that hadn’t happened. It was a life of unending pain and humiliation until she managed to escape, take a different identity and go to school to become a scientist. But now her past is catching up with her. As the book opens, she has been captured and dragged inside the mines where the prisoners live a hellish life. She is kind of kidnapped by a warrior prisoner after they recognize each other. He was a former member of the military until he joined the resistance and he and his men were shipped to hell. He recognizes her from his trial as one of the elite class, a group of the over privileged he hates.

Hunter Valdus things here is an opportunity to escape. He has the rulers missing wife and he’s willing to trade her for his freedom. But as he takes her to the living quarters, he slowly begins to realized there is more to her than meets the eye. The feeling is accelerated when she experiences excruciating pain, needing to mate or die. This is from a sick experiment her husband did on her.

I don’t want to give too much more away except to say this is a gripping story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Many of the scenes aren’t easy to read. This is a vicious place where death for anyone is just around the corner and the deaths are gruesome to say the least. But it’s such a good book.

What a hero Valdus is. My goodness he’s amazing. He’s a brilliant and caring leader for his men. He starts out very cold and suspicious of Ava but once he realizes how brave and smart Ava is he is so all in for her, like 200%. She is his light in the pitch darkness of his life. He’s the hero from the Bryan Adams song, Everything I Do. He would die for her and consider it an honor.
And Ava, my goodness, my goodness, my goodness. She is such an incredible heroine that she really deserves a hero like Valdus. She is smart and fast thinking, adaptable, brave as all get out and such a kickass amazing heroine.
And the chemistry between them – off the charts. Because of what the evil monster has done to her, she needs sex to live and she finds it beyond humiliating. But Valdus is so wonderful and determined that it be a joy for her and not the degradation it always has been.

This book is such a great book and if you love Sci/Fi romance, it’s one you HAVE to read. There are three in the series – so far. I hope the author has more planned and I am so going to read the others now.
